My Story

On the 6th of December 2013 a very close friend of ours Ben (Johnda) discovered a very large tumour in his brain. It was only picked up during a CT scan when he went to the doctor for sinus pain. As you can imagine it was devastating for him & his family. He is a very happy, loving, caring man that would be there for anyone, anytime.Johnda is a 38 year old man with a beautiful wife & 2 young children (1 & 3). Being 38 actually puts Johnda in the “right” age bracket for having brain cancer. We tend to assume that you can have some surgery, radiotherapy and some chemotherapy and the cancer is dealt with. That is not the case here. Treament buys time, it is not a cure.  Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in adults under 40. With 1 in 5 people surviving beyond 5 years. So I am doing a 5km fun run to raise money for charity to help Johnda & to help find a cure for this type of cancer. Thanks heaps for your support. It really means a lot ☺

(we separately donated $8,486 to Cure Brain Cancer Foundation for our High Tea held on 20/7/14).

What an amazing debut fundraising event! Thank you so much to everyone for your support, your generous donations and your help in raising awareness of brain cancer.

Go Johnda's Joggers!! We will be doing the 15km at the City2Sea in November (join us if you wish! email johndasjoggers@gmail.com), and we will be back with another big fundraising run in 2015.

Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in people under 40 as well as being the leading cause of cancer deaths in children. *Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) 2012. ACIM (Australian Cancer Incidence and Mortality) Books. AIHW: Canberra.

It’s the sort of thing you hear happens to other people, not to people you know.

Recently, our good mate Johnda was diagnosed with brain cancer. Johnda is a happily married 38 year old with two pre school aged children, who loves playing golf, the Geelong Cats and having a beer with his mates. Needless to say, his diagnosis has come as a shock to his family and friends so we wanted to create this team to show our support and raise much needed funds required for brain cancer research in Australia.

We would like to involve as many people as possible to help us support the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation. Whether it is through participation in The Age Run Melbourne and collecting donations, or by donating in support of a team member. We will be pushing ourselves to run further than we ever have before by taking part in either the 5km walk/run, the 10km run or half marathon (21km).

Brain cancer research receives very little funding. In 2012, brain cancer only received 3% of federal government cancer research funding. *NHMRC Grant Application Round 2012

Help us help Johnda and the 1600 other people just like him that are diagnosed with brain cancer every year in Australia by donating to our team via one of our team members. Click on the “Give Now” button above to donate and then share our story with others by clicking the “Share” button. Or if you are up for the challenge, join our team and start raising funds yourself (contact  johndasjoggers@gmail.com)
